Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL)

What is the PGDL?

We tutor students studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL). Aspiring solicitors who begin their studies in September 2021 will prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), which will basically replace the GDL and Legal Practice Course (LPC). Transitional provisions have been put in place to allow people who began a law degree, GDL, or LPC before to September 2021 to qualify via the regular method until 2032. This adjustment in certification will guarantee that all new solicitors get the same level of education and assessment.

PGDL Tutor

It was intended to be a transnational system which is being replaced by the SQE. But in recent times the SQE has proven to be difficult jump, so students are continuing to study the PGDL with pace. How can we help? Along with providing non-law students with a fundamental understanding of legal principles we attempt to get them ready for practice and focus on application in a way that teaches them how to use the knoweldge to be a lawyer.

Trainee Lawyer not Law Student

We have seen a shift in the way new law students are being taught, there is now a stronger emphasis on training new students entering the profession (especially the PGDL) to be junior lawyers rather than law students. There is a change in the approach of learning for all postgraduate law courses.

Change in Attitude

PGDL students are being examined with the different types of documents they will encounter on the job. There is now a stronger need for them to shift through documents and extract evidence and provide clear advice. This is different to the old style GDL which was more academic, similar to the law degree. Acquiring the new skills needed has changed our approach where we now treat a PGDL student as a lawyer and give them skills of application, legal theory and preparing them for what lies ahead making them more effective as lawyers. We help with how to research, how to present while also helping with the academic skills a lawyer uses.
