Currently enrolled in the SQE at BPP Law School, he will be joining the vacation scheme with a magic circle law firm this summer.

Teaching Style

Our BA in Jurisprudence (Oxford University) Tutor teaching style is focused on helping students achieving their best exam results in a short amount of time. Not all Oxford students study all the time throughout their undergraduate degree - you will be involved in student societies, sports teams, and other activities, like any university students do. From our experience, you do not have to have studied all the time to achieve good grades. It is entirely possible to achieve a high 2.1 or a 1st through focused preparation with a tutor who knows the Oxford syllabus well and understands what it demands. Private 1-to-1 tuition with a Oxford University Tutor is the most time efficient way to achieve good exam results as it allows the tutor to focus on the student’s weaknesses and gaps in knowledge. There are generally three areas which students find difficult.

Sophisticated Answers

Firstly, students often find it difficult to reach the level of sophistication in their answers expected by examiners. Usually this comes from not knowing what they are looking for. Our tutor will provide students with guidance on how to interweave academic commentary with legal doctrine together to craft a nuanced and balanced response.

Discussion points

Secondly, students often miss certain discussion points which could score them higher marks. To achieve a high 2.1 or 1st, it is necessary to demonstrate to the examiner that there are no significant gaps in your knowledge. Our tutor will tackle this issue by going through past exam reports to demonstrate to students exactly what points they have missed.

Mock exams

Finally, students often lack practice under exam conditions. After learning each topic, our tutor will aim to do at least one practice paper with the student to consolidate their knowledge and prepare them for the real exam. Full model answers for past papers, rather than simple feedback, can be provided for students to learn from if required.

How Many Hours Do I Need?

As a guideline, within:

1 hour - Understanding an issued;

5 hours - Learning 2-3 topics within one subject (contract, tort, land, trust);

10 hours - Learning one subject in full; and

25 hrs - Be exam-ready in one subject by practising multiple past papers.

These timing estimates are based on thee Oxford syllabus for a student with some existing knowledge.
