AS/A2 Level Law

We offer tuition to students studying at school and college level. Courses are tailored to the syllabus and curriculum being studied and concentrate on study and exam techniques, as well as providing a good foundation knowledge of academic legal skills.

We have in depth and expert knowledge of the main examination board syllabuses for A Level Law and a working knowledge of the mark schemes. We know what a student needs to do, by when and how. Our law tutors aim to ensure a student passes their A Level Law exam, obtaining the highest possible grade.

This is important. Getting into a good university can be fundamental to a student’s success in a future career. But securing a place at a good university is increasingly difficult and universities are looking for high grades in traditional subjects.

AQA Exam Board

AQA offer both AS and A2 level law. At AS level candidates can take the following units:

  • Unit 1: Law Making and the Legal System
  • Unit 2: The Concept of Liability.

The aim is for candidates to develop a knowledge and understanding of the legal system and an ability to evaluate its operation and performance.

At A2 candidates can take the following units:

  • Unit 3: Criminal Law (Offences against the Person) or Contract Law
  • Unit 4: Criminal Law (Offences against Property) or Tort, AND Concepts of Law.

At A2, the specification further develops knowledge of the legal system and of substantive law through criminal law and/or civil law.

Evaluation of the concepts of law continues to be developed at this level of study.

OCR Exam Board

OCR A Level law provides a grounding in the main principles of English. Candidates develop knowledge, understanding, and critical awareness of the structure, personnel and functions of the English Legal System.

The OCR lists the following as the key benefits to studying on its programme:

  • The redeveloped specification is based on consultation which took place during Spring 2005 between QCA, senior OCR Law examiners and a number of existing centre
  • To reduce the assessment burden on students the number of units has been reduced to four units (two at AS, two at A2). Overall examination time is reduced by one hour
  • Simple, straightforward assessment, with no coursework
  • Unique to OCR's GCE A Level Law specification, candidates are required to demonstrate a high level of legal skills throughout the assessment of this specification. The assessment of the English Legal System and the chosen area of substantive law through single units allow for a more integrated approach to teaching and learning.
  • This new specification gives excellent preparation for those students wishing to progress to degree level study through encouraging candidates to develop the skills necessary to analyse and solve problems by applying legal rules and to develop the ability to communicate legal arguments and conclusions clearly and succinctly.
